Tenuta Larnianone Chianti docg Riserva “Larniano”

Overlooking Villa Larniano stands the vigneto Larniano which is composed of a single hectare vineyard planted in 1972 resulting the oldest parcel of the estate planted under the supervision of Ezio Morfini.

The yield from this parcel of 50 years old is naturally low and the grapes acquire complexity and concentration that only wines with such an age could reach.

The layout of the vineyard rows is of vital importance. In the Larniano plot the rows are planted perpendicular to the direction of maximum slope in order to allow the summer rains to penetrate slowly into the soil, rather than run off violently.

Chianti Riserva Larniano is composed only by the finest Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grapes carefully selected from the Larniano plot. After the malolactic fermentation in concrete vats the wine is aged for 18 months in premium Hungarian barrels.

The production of this Riserva is very limited, around 2600 bottles, selecting only the finest grapes of the most qualitative and historical Sangiovese based estate parcel.

Tenuta Larnianone is located in the hills close to Siena, where their family has been producing wine and olive oil since 1939. The property, which contains 19 hectares of vineyards and 12 hectares of olive groves, enjoys a breathtaking view of the Chianti hills and of the renowned medieval city only 5 km away.

They grow native local grape varieties as Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo, and have also introduced some international varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to add another dimension to their production, benefiting from the properties of our extraordinarily rich soil.

The estate prides themselves in performing the most significant parts of the production process by hand, including pruning, tying-up, leaf-pulling and cluster-thin-fining. Harvesting too is done manually, carefully choosing the right time for picking in every single lot, to ensure the perfect ripeness of our grapes.

Tenuta Larnianone lies on a fertile land surrounded by woods and encompassed by two rivers, Bozzone and Arbia.

During the 1930’s the land was passed to the Masignani family, a well-known pasta producer from Siena, who decided to start a private production of wines.

Later, Maria Masignani married Ezio Morfini, a skillful and visionary engineer from Milan who, impressed by the beauty and the peace of the location, began the conservative restoration of the old farmhouses in the ‘60s. Following their great passion for wine, they decided to invest time and resources, using innovative techniques to create a wine with a superior quality that could celebrate the excellence of their land and could be handed down to their future generation.

Nowadays the property is still owned by the Morfini family: Tullio, Duccio, Anna that manage with their sons.
